Tom Dumoulin has been elected Dutch cyclist of the year. On his 26th birthday, the Giant-Alpecin rider received the Gerrit Schulte Trofee at the traditional Cycling Gala. Dumoulin also got the title in the last two years.
This season Dumoulin got a stage win in the Giro, spent several days the leader's jersey in the Italian grand tour, got two stage victories in the Tour and an Olympic silver medal in the time trial. He also won the Dutch time trial championshuos for the second time.
In the vote, Dumoulin beat Liege-Bastogne-Liege winner Wout Poels and grand tour stars Bauke Mollema and Steven Kruijswijk. Sam Oomen who won the Tour de l’Ain in his neo-pro season, earned the best young rider award while Anna van der Breggen took home the women’s trophy.
