Italian Filippo Pozzato (Lampre-Merida) saw an opening in a hectic sprint after Greg Van Avermaet (BMC) had been reeled in inside the final kilometre, and narrowly edged out Giacomo Nizzolo (Radioshack) and Samuel Dumoulin (Ag2r) in the GP Ouest Plouay today.
Samuel Dumoulin reflected on his podium finish:
“Obviously, this is a good result on the 2nd most important French one-day race! I’m a little bit disappointed by my sprint because victory was close. I’d prepared well for this event and I was in a very good shape. I felt pretty good throughout the day and the team worked well and followed the instructions. I was in the way of Pozzato when I pulled out but he overtook me in last metres. It would have required a perfect timing to win today, but this 3rd rank is a great performance in this high level race.”
