Tom Dumoulin finally turned a number of near-misses into a win when he beat the rest in today's Criterium International time trial. The Dutchman is now the leader of the race and is ready to give it his all to try to win the race in tomorrow's queen stage.
Tom Dumoulin has won the individual time trial at Critérium International and taken the lead overall in the race.
Dumoulin blitzed the 7km rolling parcours in 9’07″, putting three seconds into second place. After going close in the time trials at Ruta del Sol and Tirreno-Adriatico today he was the fastest.
It is Dumoulin's first win of the season.
Lawson Craddock also finished in the top-20 top round out a good day against the clock for Team Giant-Shimano.
Coach, Christian Guiberteau said after the stage: “Tom did a great TT today, and it’s a great boost for his morale after lots of near misses and second places.
“The course started off with a tough uphill start followed by a technical descent. The second half was then much more suited to Tom on flatter, fast roads.
“It will be a tough fight tomorrow with the finishing col and the time gaps are still quite small but we will make a plan for this and give it everything.”
Resplendent in his new yellow jersey, Tom Dumoulin said:
“Finally, after lots of close calls and second places it’s great to get a win.
“I went full gas from the off and did a good ride, nailed all the corners and had good power on the fast sections. Once again the Giant Trinity TT bike felt so smooth and fast and mentally that’s a huge boost when you’re hurting.
“It’s great to win here in Corsica again after our Tour success here last year. It seems that we have a good connection with yellow jersey’s in Corsica.
“Tomorrow is going to be hard for sure but I am in good shape and feel strong so I will give it my all on the climbs with the guys and see how we finish.”
