After his breakthrough as a GC rider at the Vuelta a Espana, there has been much speculation about Tom Dumoulin's grand tour plans for the future. Yestersay he attended the Giro d'Italia presentation and admitted that there is a chance that he will be at the start of the Italian race.

Tom Dumoulin has always made it clear that his big goal for 2016 is the Olympics and that all grand tour plans will be decided by what is the best approach to Rio. Hence, he has almost ruled out going for GC in the Tour de France and instead the Giro d'Italia could be an opportunity.

Yesterday he watched while a very favourable course was unveiled. With three time trials, including a long, rolling in Chianti tailormade for Dumoulin, and a start in the Netherlands, the race has Dumoulin written all over it.

"I see it now for the first time so it's difficult to have an opinion already but it looks like a good mix and a mix that favours also a time trialist so it's good," Dumoulin told reporters, including one from Cyclingnews.  "I don't know yet. We have to make a plan in the coming winter about it. It could definitely be an option.

"I'm not sure yet but it has to be fitting into my programme for Rio. Rio is the main focus and you shouldn't have too many goals."

After the presentation, Dumoulin travelled to Abu Dhabi where he will end his season at the Abu Dhabi Tour.
