According to the Dutch media, Team Sky manager Dave Brailsford was under a huge impression of Tom Dumoulin’s showing in the World Championship ITT event where the 23-year old rider took bronze, and revealed that he would like to see him in his squad more than any other cyclist.
“If I really could have only one rider in the team, it would be Dumoulin,” Brailsford told De Telegraaf. “If you have such time trialing skills in the age of 23, then you’re a really great talent.”
“I think he has a great potential,” Team Sky manager continued, claiming that with his climbing skills being gradually improved, the 23-year old Giant-Shimano rider can be easily transformed into a Grand Tour contender. “I am convinced that we can help him develop into a Grant Tour winner in the future.”
However, informed about an interest expressed by the Team Sky manager, Dumoulin claimed that he intends to stay in the Giant-Shimano outfit until his existing contract expires with the end of the next season.
“But I’m not interested. I have a contract until [the end of] 2015 with my current team and I’m enjoying myself there,” commented the 23-year old Dutchman.
