According to the Dutch Cycling Federation, track rider Tim Veldt has ended his career. The 32-year-old rider was last in action at the highest level at the Olympic Games in Rio.
After the Games - after Athens, Beijing and London it was the fourth participation - Veldt hung up the bike. The Dutchman had the feeling not to be able to develop enough to continue in the sport. "In cycling I have been shifted my attention several times to look for a new challenge. In 2008 after the Olympic Games in Beijing I decided myself to change myself from being a sprinter to an endurance rider. But now I want to focus on a new career.”
What this new career exactly entails is still unclear. "At the moment I'm especially trying to look around and I am open to many new things, yet I would like to somehow stay involved in the sport."
Veldt excelled mainly in the team pursuit and omnium. At the World Championships, he won a silver and bronze medal in the omnium.
