The Dutch one-day race Ster van Zwolle will be a national competition from 2017. According to Flavio Pasquino, organizer of the Topcompetitie series, this step has been taken to remain part of the Topcompetitie.
In recent years, Ster van Zwolle has been the unofficial opener of the Dutch season and has been an international race with a 1.2 status.
By choosing a spot on the national cycling calendar, the organzizers is not bound by the rules of the International Cycling Union with regard to the peloton. Hence, the organizers of the Topcompetie all can guarantee a starting place in all races in the series.
This year the Ster van Zwolle was won by Jeff Vermeulen.
