The 58th edition of the E3 Harelbeke has been proposed. The race starts and finishes this year at the foot of the local football complex, Forestier Stadium.
E3 Harelbeke belongs to the World Tour and is on Friday, March 27th on the cycling calendar. The organization has announced the departure and arrival will be forced to a different location.
"Through various activities we have to find another start and finish," said Guy Dedeyne of the organizing committee.
"In consultation with the city council, we arrived at the site of the Forestier Stadium. For us that was not unknown territory, because the E3 Harelbeke has started here before in the past."
"Our cost is the home straight is under construction. The Stasegemsesteenweg will to 2020 remain the host of the start and finish location."
However, the rest of the course is unchanged from last year’s event, won by Peter Sagan ahead of Niki Terpstra and Geraint Thomas.
"The final of the race, at least the last three kilometers, is redrawn. The rest remains almost intact. This means that we have 218 kilometer course, which includes 17 hills. After a flat circulation we draw the Flemish Ardennes. We get another open race to the finish line. The finishing straight is 650 meters long and 9 meters wide, so perfect for sprinting."
At the same time, five wildcards were announced to go with the 17 WorldTour teams: Wanty-Groupe Gobert, Topsport Vlaanderen, Europcar, MTN-Qhubeka and Roompot-Orange.
