Efapel - Glassdrive had two ambitions for the stage of today. Keeping the yellow jersey on the shoulders of Victor de la Parte and trying to win the stage with Filipe Cardoso. The first goal succeeded for the team, but Cardoso came in just short.
The stage ended in a sprint where Davide Vigano took his first ever professional win. Filipe Cardoso came in second ahead of Hugo Sabido, who finished third.
“It worked just fine for us, but he couldn’t win. We must congratulate the winner. In our perspective we controlled the race when we had the men to do it. We have a responsibility as we wear the yellow jersey, but our goal from the start was a good finish in Lisbon. Now we will rest and prepare ourselves for the upcoming days, which are set to be very hard,” DS Carlos Pereira said to the Efapel webpage.
Ricardo Mestre said something quite similar to what Pereira said. The team did a great job, but Vigano was simply just better.
"The team worked perfectly today. Filipe spared during the stage because the win remained with the leading group. We discussed if we could win and decided to go for it. He could not win but he was very good. Anyway, the aim was to keep the yellow. The stage was very beautiful,” Ricardo Mestre said.
