While it seems to be almost certain that Cannondale Procycling will dissolve by the end of 2014 season as the bike manufacturer joins Garmin-Sharp as a new sponsor, a future of their riders is currently up in the air. Despite first rumors suggesting that American team manager Jonathan Vaughters was reluctant to welcome Cannondale cyclists in his squad, apparently eight riders will have their nearest future secured in revamped Garmin.
Even though it still hasn’t been confirmed, Cannondale leaders whose contracts expire by the end of 2014 Ivan Basso and Peter Sagan are expected to join Tinkoff-Saxo, with older brother of the latter, Juraj, and his loyal lieutenant Maciej Bodnar reportedly following the 24-year old Slovak. Several different riders of the Italian squad, like Alessandro de Marchi and Damiano Caruso, have already secured their future with other squads, but the situation of the majority of their members is currently very uncertain.
Despite some rumors suggesting that Vaughters was reluctant to welcome Cannondale riders in his squad, Garmin-Sharp manager met all their riders being under contract through 2015 in Italy after the Tour de France and according to Cyclingnews it is very likely that Moreno Moser, Elia Viviani, Alan Marangoni, Kristijan Koren, Davide Villella, Davide Formolo, Alberto Bettiol and Matej Mohoric will all ride for the American team next season.
Cannondale riders participating in the Tour de Pologne refused to confirm such information, but those eight expected to join Garmin-Sharp appeared to be confident about their future in professional cycling.
"I have a contract with Cannondale for 2015 and no plan B," said Moreno Moser. Neo-professionnals Davide Villella and Davide Formolo also said they were "confident" they will race for a team next year.
