In the build-up to the Tour of Lombardy, the FDJ team has decided to compete in two Italian semi-classic and the first, Tre Valli Varesine, confirmed the very good condition of its riders, Kenny Elissonde taking seventh in the race won by Nibali (Astana).
"The FDJ team did a very good race," sports director Martial Gayant said. "Most of our riders found themselves in breakaways including Jérémy Roy and Thibaut Pinot who were in a group of 15 riders that had 2'50''. Three laps from the finish, it was over but we remained active."
Alexandre Geniez and Arnold Jeannesson tried theirluck again before fifteen riders came out, a group including Pinot and Elissonde.
"After being launched by the Astana team, Vincenzo Nibali made a decisive attack and won solo with 10 seconds on his chasers. Kenny attacked to get third place but was caught 100 meters from the finish. He finished seventh, ahead of Thibaut (12th). The guys are in a good momentum."
Tpday Milan-Turin, one of the oldest races on the calendar, will offer a summit finish and Martial is sure that a climber will prevail.
