Martin Elmiger saw his classic campaign come to an abrupt halt when he crashed out of the Tour of Flanders. This week he will make his comeback at the Tour of Belgium where his IAM team will be led by Thomas Löfkvist and Sylvain Chavanel.
Six weeks already that Martin Elmiger is training his patience. A fracture in his left scaphoid during the Tour of Flanders (April 6th) stopped him from exercising his passion, to finish the classic campaign and to prepare properly for the second part of the season.
A plaster allowed him nevertheless to be on a bike, first on the trainer and then on the road. The OK from the doctors came at the right point, according to the habitant of Zug.
“At my age (35) and thanks to my experience I have learnt to keep a sense of portion and to prepare for the next objective. I trained well last week, with long sessions. I still have some pain and I expect the next race to be difficult. I will do everything to help the team.
"My goal at the Tour of Belgium will be find my rhythm again. At the GP of Aargau in Gippingen I will have the opportunity to work on the details in order to be at the top for the Tour de Suisse, major objective of IAM Cycling.”
