Part of the Etixx – Quick-Step setup since 2013, Pieter Serry will sport the colors of the team also next season, after signing a new deal with the outfit run by Patrick Lefevere, which will see him start his fifth consecutive year at World Tour level.
“Etixx – Quick-Step was always by my side, supported me even when I was injured and showed how much trust they have in me, so there wasn’t much to think about when being given this contract renewal. I’m really happy and thankful to continue my career here and you can be sure I’ll work and train with the same determination next season. I know what my role is inside the team and I’m ready to give it my all in the Ardennes Classics and the Grand Tours for our leaders. Of course, if an opportunity will arise, I’ll try to take advantage of it, but my main goals will be to continue my improvement and be there whenever the team needs me”, said the 27-year-old.
In 2016, Serry started his season early, in January, at Australia’s Tour Down Under, before returning to Europe, where he got four top 5 placings in the space of just one week. Later in the spring, he raced the Ardennes Classics and completed the grueling Giro d’Italia, proving every time his dedication and selflessness by spending countless kilometers at the head of the peloton and being there for his teammates when it mattered, thus helping Etixx – Quick-Step achieve its goals.
Patrick Lefevere, the team’s CEO, shared his thoughts on the Belgian and explained the decision to give him a new contract:
“You won’t find in the peloton many guys who sacrifice themselves the way Pieter Serry does. He’s a very valuable helper, a rider who always puts the squad’s ambitions ahead of his own and a true professional, things for which he deserves huge respect. He showed that he knows how to prepare for the big races and I’m sure that also in 2017 he’ll bring an important input to our team, in the Ardennes as well as in the stage races he’ll do.”
