Etixx – Quick-Step continues its transfer campaign with the signing of Eros Capecchi, the team's sixth new rider for 2017.
A pro for more than a decade now, Capecchi – who is hailing from the province of Perugia – rode a total of 13 Grand Tours (8 Giro d'Italia, 1 Tour de France and 4 Vuelta a España) and has four victories to his name: a stage and the general classification at the Euskal Bizikleta, the Gran Premio di Lugano and a stage of the Giro d'Italia, which he won from a day-long break.
A strong and reliable rider in the mountains, where he showed his prowess on numerous occasions in the past, the 30-year-old talked about the excitement brought by this transfer and the opportunity he's been given:
"I am proud to sign with one of the best teams in the world. A change which comes with a new experience is always welcomed and I am really thrilled about this one. Etixx – Quick-Step has a winning mentality which is put on display in every race. The team is always in the thick of the action and it gives me great satisfaction to know that from next season I will be part of this beautiful and successful environment, to which I am keen on contributing."
Pleased by Capecchi's addition to the team, Etixx – Quick-Step CEO Patrick Lefevere talked of the expectations he has from the Italian:
"Eros is a rider who will join our strong group for the big mountains, which includes Gianluca Brambilla, Bob Jungels and Dan Martin. He has a huge experience, with the results he got over the years and his presence in Grand Tour winning squads underlining what he is capable of doing. We are giving him a warm welcome and trust he will be there for the team when it will count and bring his invaluable support in order to attain the goals we'll lay out for next season."
