After a hard Giro d'Italia, Cadel Evans is lining up at the Tour de Suisse, hoping to finish high in the overall standings but he got his race off to a poor start. After finishing 63rd in the opening time trial, he said that he may lack a bit of punch after three weeks of hard racing.

Silvan Dillier was best for the BMC Racing Team in Saturday's individual time trial that opened the Tour de Suisse. Dillier clocked a time 42 seconds slower than stage winner and world time trial champion Tony Martin (Omega Pharma-Quick Step) to finish 29th.

Runner-up at GP Kanton Aargau two days ago, Dillier said he used a specific pacing strategy for the 9.4-kilometer race.

"In the flat part, I tried to save a little bit of energy for the uphill, where you can make the biggest difference," he said. "On the uphill, I was full gas to the top. I did not take too many risks on the downhill because it was pretty dangerous. But I am happy."

Cadel Evans, who finished eighth for the BMC Racing Team at the Giro d'Italia, was 63rd, 56 seconds off the winning time. Sport Director Fabio Baldato said Evans went well considering his efforts at the grand tour last month and the course.

"I am satisfied with what Cadel showed on the climb," Baldato said. "I know it was not really his race today. We are looking more to the first mountain stage Sunday and the other days. The objective today was to be safe."
