Cadel Evans is doing the Tour de Suisse on the back of a very hard Giro d'Italia but the Australian doesn't seem to be too fatigued. Today he put a disappointing first time trial behind him by taking fifth in the first uphill finish of the race.
On the up-hill finish of stage 3, Cadel Evans took the fifth position after leading out the sprint in the final 500 metres.
"I started in the final 500 metres because I didn't know how narrow the final road was and I didn’t know if it was possible to pass or not. I started too early for the stage win but was good for the GC," Cadel Evans said.
Peter Sagan (Cannondale) won the stage, he outsprinted Michael Albasini (Orica-GreenEdge) and Sergio Luis Henao (Team SKY).
"It was a long stage after a hard day like yesterday and the legs are tired," added Cadel Evans.
Martin Kohler and Danilo Wyss were in the heart of the race as planned in the morning.
"In the meeting just before the race we planned to go in the breakaways,” said BMC Racing Team Sport Director Fabio Baldato. "And we did the work at our best. Unfortunately OricaGreenEdge decided to make the race hard to push their leader Albasini. Cadel did a good sprint and took the fifth place and improved in the GC to the 26th place, gaining five seconds to some of his direct rivals for the GC."
Tony Martin (Omega Pharma-Quick Step) kept the overall lead.
