"Overall, the week of racing was a really good week of race preparation. I still have a bit of work to do and some room for improvement. I need to be better if I want to be competitive at the Giro," Evans says

Cadel Evans faces his final big test before the Giro d'Italia when he lines up at the Giro del Trentino as BMC team captain. Fresh off a solid performance at the Vuelta al Pais Vasco, the Australian hopes to see further improvement in the mountainous Italian race.

The Giro del Trentino will be a final opportunity to sharpen form and make final preparations for the Giro d'Italia, BMC Racing Team Sport Director Fabio Baldato said. Five riders who are expected to make up the BMC Racing Team's roster for the first grand tour of the year will be on the start line Tuesday: Brent Bookwalter, Yannick Eijssen, Cadel Evans, Steve Morabito and Daniel Oss.

"With this being the last race for Cadel before the Giro, it is a good opportunity for the guys to work together," Baldato said. "Plus, the first stage is a team time trial, just like in the Giro. So it will be a good test for us."

In addition to the team time trial, the four-day race features three mountain-top finishes. Evans – third place at the Giro last year – is coming off a seventh-place finish at Vuelta al Pais Vasco where he also helped the BMC Racing Team win the team classification.

"Overall, the week of racing was a really good week of race preparation," Evans said afterwards. "I still have a bit of work to do and some room for improvement. I need to be better if I want to be competitive at the Giro."

BMC Racing Team Giro del Trentino Roster (April 22-25):
Brent Bookwalter (USA), Yannick Eijssen (BEL), Cadel Evans (AUS), Martin Kohler (SUI), Sebastian Lander (DEN), Steve Morabito (SUI), Daniel Oss (ITA), Rick Zabel (GER).
