Despite the lack of top tier sprinters at the tour Down Under, Caleb Ewan says he and his Orica-GreenEDGE team know how difficult it will be to win the sprint stages at the race.

“We don’t have the top three or four sprinters in the world here but there are still guys that are really quick so it’s not going to be easy to win a stage,” Ewan told Cycling Weekly.

Ewan faces Giro points jersey winner Giacomo Nizzolo (Trek) as well as 2015 stage winners Wouter Wippert (Cannondale-Garmin) and Steele Von Hoff (UniSA).

Ewan says there are a few stages he can target, but he needs to place the team’s GC ambitions above his own stage goals.

“I think there’s a few stages that should suit me but the main goal for the team will be going for GC so I’ll need to fit my plans around that,” Ewan said. “I think if there’s a stage I’m feeling good for and the team want to support me they will.”
