Despite having a scintillating start to 2015, Caleb Ewan knows he most perform when he comes up against the biggest sprint names like Cavendish, Greipel and Kittel. He has already beaten names like Degenkolb, Sagan and Nizzolo in his 14 months as a pro.

"I know the top five sprinters in the world are still going to be the ones who I want to beat," he told SBS Cycling Central ahead of the Herald Sun Tour. "They're going to be hard to beat. So until I can actually get a few wins against some of those top guys, my confidence is still probably not as high as it would want to be."

Ewan has his sights set on adding to his Vuelta stage from 2015 when he lines up at the Giro d’Italia, where he knows he could be provisionally up against at least two of the fastest men on two wheels. For now, Ewan says he doesn’t mind all the media attention on himself despite his young age, as he says that attention means he is winning.

"It's nice, obviously it comes with winning," he said. "I'd prefer it being like that, winning and having the extra media, that kind of stuff."
