One day after Rafal Majka's great stage win, Tinkoff-Saxo were again in the mix when Daniele Bennati launched a brave attack in the finale of today's stage. Just as he had taken off, he suffered an untimely puncture.
The loss of Alberto Contador definitely hasn't dampened the Tinkoff-Saxo spirit and the Russian team is determined to make the most out of the final part of the Tour de France. Yesterday Rafal Majka won a big mountain stage and today Daniele Bennati made a brave attack in the finale of the mostly flat stage 15.
Just as Bennati had taken off and passed Tony Martin, bad luck took the Italian out of contention. An untimely puncture took him out of the battle for the stage win and so Tinkoff-Saxo came away from the stage empty-handed.
“Daniele seized the moment and launched an attack in the final two kilometers but what bad luck to be struck by a flat tire at exactly this moment," sport director Philippe Mauduit said. "However, he showed that he’s still in good shape. The race lasts another week and even though we’ve reached our goal by winning a stage, we will keep chasing stage wins as long as there are stages left to win."
