French team FDJ has confirmed its objectives for the 2017 season in a press release.
The season will be special as it marks the twentieth anniversary for the team that has taken 400 victories during those years. In 2016 FDJ took twenty victories including five in the WorldTour, including one of the monuments, Milan-San Remo with Arnaud Démare. In 2017 the main objectives will be the classics, the Giro with Thibaut Pinot and stages at the Tour de France in addition of course to the tricolor jersey of French champion which is so dear to the team of Marc Madiot.
”We will be at the grand tours.Thibaut Pinot will do the Giro and Tour de France and Arnaud Demare will also participate in the Tour. At the Vuelta, we will give the opportunity to Sébastien Reichenbach to be a leader,” said manager Madiot.
“We will also be in the fight at the big Belgian classics and Roubaix, but of course also on the roads of La Primavera where Arnaud Démare will be the defending champion. Finally, we will of course not forget the French races and the Coupe de France where we will be present with appetite.”
In addition, Marc Madiot confirmed to Cyclingnews.com that the FDJ team will not take part in the Tour of Guangxi, the new World Tour event which will be the last race on the calendar in 2017. The presence of WorldTour teams is not mandatory in new WorldTour races.
