With a fifth place in La Polynormance, Pierrich Fedrigo (Bretagne) extended his lead in the Coupe de France race series. His teammate Anthony Delaplace finished fourth.
"Anthony (Delaplace) and I handled the situation in a bad way," Fedrigo told Directvelo. "It would have taken just one attack in the last kilometer and we would have had every chance in the sprint. When I was behind, nobody wanted to ride with me, obviously. When I finally got back, they countered. I needed a break and then I fell behind again. I did not know Oliver Naesen but it was obvious he was above the rest. It's a shame to lose races like that.
"It is true that I have just finished the Tour de France and that I have accumulated a lot of fatigue. I'll take a break for a few days next week before my next races: the Tour du Limousin, the Grand Prix de Plouay. We are always under pressure at the Tour, she will have to recover a little."
"We are obviously disappointed," Delaplace told Directvelo. "We were 3 from team in the front in the finale. We had given priority to Pierrick (Fedrigo) because he is the leader of the Coupe de France and needed to score points. I knew he was faster in the sprint and I worked for him. Two kilometers from the line he said "go ahead" and I understood it as "start to work". I thought he wanted me to lead out the sprint but he asked me to try my luck. It was a mistake. I led out the sprint when he was not even on my wheel. So, I did the job for the first 3 riders.
"I was good today, I had great sensations. We messed it up on the line and we ended 4th and 5th. In cycling it is only victory that counts and today we wasted a great opportunity. I will now rest a little in order to make a good end of the season. I will do the Tour du Limousin. "
