With a second place for Florian Vachon and the mountains jersey for Brice Feillu, Bretagne had a very successful Tour de l'Ain.
"Finishing second in the general classification is fine even if it's still frustrating to miss out by a few seconds," Vachon told Directvelo. "I honestly did not expect it. This is the first time I am on the podium of the GC in a pro race.
"I made some mistakes in the final of yesterday's stage which cost me victory. I really missed to stay calm. Basically I did not think about the GCl, I came here for the stages. But thanks to the race yesterday, I found myself in a great position today. I really had good legs in the Tour de l'Ain. I thought I would suffer after yesterday but in the end I stood firm. It's a good thing for the team.
"I will now concentrate on the Tour du Limousin and the Grand Prix de Plouay. The latter should perfectly suit my qualities as a puncheur. I appreciate the one-day races with a challenging course. Furthermore, it takes place in Bretagne so it is very important for our team. I will be aiming to win, but a podium would already be a very good performance."
"I did not think about the polka dot jersey this morning," Feillu told Directvelo. "I did not even plan to escape. During the briefing, we agreed that it would be Frédéric Brun who had to attac today. But despite several accelerations, the break went without him.
"I devoted myself to represent the team in front. I thought that with a little luck Frédéric could manage to follow me, but no one joined me.
"Since last night I was only a point behind Julien El Fares so I decided to go for the sprints. It was not too difficult because no one in the breakaway contested the classification. I have not really believed in the victory because I felt that I was losing strength on the climbs. I was less fresh in the final and I finally exploded.
"I'm not disappointed from a personal point of view as it would have been difficult to win the stage. But I'm a little sad for Florian (Vachon) who finished second yesterday and third today. I tried to stay with my breakaway companions so he could attempt an attack from behind, but it didn't work."
