With a number of top results in recent races, Romain Feillu has been veru close to a major win for his Bretagne team. Yesterday he again got close when he took his third second place in the French sprint race Chateauroux Classic de l'Indre.
After a couple of disappointing season, Romain Feillu has got his career back on track after he joined Bretagne for the 2014 season. In the Ronde de l'Oise he took his first victory since 2011 and after the Tour de France he has been knocking on the door for another victory.
Yesterday he again got close when he was beaten into second by Iljo Keisse in the Chateauroux Classic de l'Indre.
"This is the third time I finished second here," he told Directvelo. "I'm still happy with the result. I was caught behind a small crash two kilometers from the line. I was in the top positions. When I started again, I was around 70th.
"I caught Iljo Keisse's wheel. I think I should have stayed there a little longer. But I was afraid of getting boxed in. 100-150m from the line I was about to passe him. But he is a strong rider and he managed to keep his power longer than me. Without the crash, I may have had a bit more punch which I missed. But no one says that the result would have been different.
"Iljo Keisse is not well known on the road as he is in the shadow of Mark Cavendish. I had expected Andrew Fenn to be a rival but I didn't know who they would be supporting. I hope to raise their arms soon. And why not in Plouay? For my first year with the Bretagne team, that would be nice! "
