Roberto Ferrari dug deep to stay with the best in today's stage of the Vuelta a Espana. However, the Italian got out of position for the final sprint and had to settle for 10th.

Having finished third in stage 2, Roberto Ferrari again proved his condition in stage 5 of the Vuelta a Espana when he first made the split in the crosswinds and then survived the late climb. With Maximilano Richeze and Elia Favilli at his side, he had formidable support for the sprint and seemed to be in good position in the finale.

In the end, however, he lost his good spot in the final roundabout and rolled across the line in 10th. Claiming that positioning was the key to success, he lamented the lost opportunity.

"800 meters from the finish there was a roundabout," he said. "From there it was slightly uphill to the finish. It was important to hit the rounabout in one of the front positions. In fact, the final result more or less reflected the positions in the roundabout.

"I thought I was in a good position, but some riders overtook me just before the roundabout, so I could not complete  the support I had received from my teammates".
