Belgian team Accent Jobs-Wanty-Team has been granted a wildcard for the 48th edition of the Amstel Gold Race. Thus the Belgian team joins Crelan-Euphony, Topsport Vlaanderen-Baloise, Europcar, IAM Cycling and NetApp-Endura on the list of invitees for this year’s race.
The rest of the field will be made up of the 19 UCI WorldTour teams, including Katusha who was granted a wildcard by race organizer Leo van Vliet even while it boasted only a Professional Continental Team license. This wildcard has now been passed on to Accent Jobs-Wanty-Team. Thus 24 teams will take part in the Dutch spring classic on April 14 and negotiate more than 251 km of racing, including 34 climbs making for a total of more than 4,000 height metres.
This year the finish line won’t be at the (in-)famous Cauberg, however, but approximately 2 km further up on the road as was the case with last year’s UCI world road championship route in Valkenberg.
Teams for Amstel Gold Race: Ag2R, Astana, Blanco, BMC, Cannondale, Euskaltel-Euskadi, FDJ, Garmin-Sharp, Katusha, Lampre-Merida, Lotto Belisol, Movistar, Omega Pharma-Quick Step, Orica Green Edge, RadioShack-Leopard, Saxo-Tinkoff, Sky, Argos-Shimano, Vacansoleil-DCM, NetApp-Endura, Crelan-Euphony, Topsport Vlaanderen, Europcar, IAM, Accent Jobs-Wanty.
