Mauro Finetto who turned 30 in May, does everything possible to think of other things, to avoid the stress and the nervous for a call that does not arrive. At his home in Tregnago, a town located about thirty kilometers from Verona, he is dedicated to his house and his girlfriend.
"This year I was hoping to make the step to the Seria A of cycling by joining the WorldTour. However, I now find myself in a nightmare: no WorldTour team and no team at all. I'd better not think about it,” the Italian tells tuttobiciweb.it.
Finetto finds himself in a Kafkaesque situation.
"I cannot give an explanation, but it is like that. This year could certainly have been better. I was definitely expecting something more, but I think I was in any case very present. Earlier this season I also had many small mechanical problems that affected me a bit. I lost the Tour of Slovenia by only 8 seconds due to a crash in a heated phase of the race and the consequent damage to the gear lever. I was second in Bernocchi, third in Sabatini, 8th in Emilia and had other more or less important results. I definitely did something but I find myself having to wait for a call that is late.”
Finetto does not hide that he demands more from himself but he does not want to retire yet.
"I know I'm not a champion, but I think I can be a good rider, yes. I deserve a place in the peloton and I still think I deserve to have a little hope.”
