The organizers of La Méditerranéenne (February 11-12) have announced (via their partner veloracingnews.fr) the teams that will be present at the 2017 edition which has been shortened to two days instead of four initially planned. There will be five WorldTour teams at the start.
Initially, only the same teams as last year, AG2R, FDJ and Astana, who won the 2016 event with Andrei Grivko, were scheduled to ride. However, the cancellation of the Tour of Qatar has led to two new entries: UAE Abu Dhabi and Bora. Apparently, the presence of Rui Alberto Faria da Costa, the former World Champion, has already been confirmed for the Arab team.
For Bora, no names have been announced at the moment but the organizers we dream to see the World Champion Peter Sagan in the Southern race. However the Slovak has not announced his 2017 schedule. If the Tour of Qatar was scheduled, there may be a chance to see Sagan at La Méditerranéenne. Sagan has participated in the Qatari race twice (2012 and 2015) but last year he only did one race before the Omloop Het Nieuwsblad, the first great classic of the year. It was the Tour de San Luis. This year we just know that he will be at the Tour Down Under (January 17-22), a race less demanding than the Tour de San Luis.
