The sprinters prepare the final classic, Sunday Paris-Tours, and most of the climbers brought their seasons to an end last Sunday in Il Lombardia. For the uphill specialists, there is, however, still one big classic up for grabs in one of Italy's most beautiful and prestigious races, Giro dell'Emilia. The race is known for its finish on the brutally steep San Luca climb in Bologna which every climber hopes to conquer, and the battle to succeed Nairo Quintana as the winner in the big semi-classic will be fierce. Starting at 14.40 CEST you can follow the race on CyclingQuotes.com/live.
Unfortunately, Giro dell'Emilia has lost a bit of prestige after last year's restructure of the calendar which changed the position of the race from being a preparation event for Il Lombardia to being the final big one-day race in Italy. That doesn't change the fact that it is one of the most spectacular races on the calendar as it finishes with 5 passages of the 2km San Luca climb which has an average gradient of 9,7% and a maximum of 16%. The race is one of the best climbers and a fierce battle between riders like Domenico Pozzovivo, Michele Scarponi, Franco Pellizotti, Jakob Fuglsang and an in-form Diego Ulissi is in store.
