The cycling season has almost come to an end and most riders have finished their season but one of the oldest and most presitigious races is still up for grabs. The Paris-Tours classic is the final big race on Italian soil and with its history as a former World Cup race, it naturally belongs to the list of the most important one-day races. The race is known as the sprinters' classic and has a reputation as being one for the fastest finishers. Nonetheless, only 4 of the editions in this millennium have finished in a bunch sprint and the usual exciting bike race is in store when the classics riders try to deny the sprinters on the small hills that precede the traditional finish on Avenue de Grammont in Tours. Starting at 13.45 CEST you can follow the race on CyclingQuotes.com/live.
Paris-Tours may have lost a bit of prestige in recent years as it was first dropped from the WorldTour and then swapped calendar dates with Il Lombardia. That means that the line-up is no longer as strong as it has traditionally been but it doesn't change the fact that it is a race that will be important race to add to the palmares for every versatile sprinter.
Mark Cavendish, Marcel Kittel and Andre Greipel have all brought their season to an end but an in-form John Degenkolb, Arnaud Demare, Tyler Farrar, Jens Debussschere and Bryan Coquard are all intent on taking a big sprint win in Tours. At the same time, aggressive classics riders like Enrico Gasparotto, Greg Van Avermaet, Björn Leukemans, Jurgen Roelandts, Lars Boom, Niki Terpstra, Sylvain Chavanel, Sep Vanmarcke, Thomas Voeckler and last year's winner Marco Marcato are ready to foil the sprinters on the many hills that are located on the run-in to Tours.
