Some of the best sprinters in the world prepare themselves for a big sprint battle in prestigious surroundings when the second edition of the new English one-day race RideLondon classic takes place in the streets of London. The race has been created to maintain the momentum created by the Olympics and is held on a route that is very similar to the Olympic road race, setting the scene for an exciting fight between attackers and sprinters. Plenty of success for Mark Cavendish, Bradley Wiggins and Chris Froome has given cycling a major boost in England and it is no big surprise that the country is now building a solid series of UCI races. One of the new inventions is the one-day race RideLondon Classic which was created to build on the momentum created by the Olympics.

The race is held on big parts of the course for the Olympic road race which means that the riders travel from the centre of London to the hills in Surrey County where Box Hill is the major challenge as it was in 2012. The final 50km are flat and take the riders back to the prestigious finish in front of the Buckingham Palace, and that sets the scene for an exciting pursuit through the streets of London.

In the Olympic race, the sprinters were denied but last year the race ended in a big bunch sprint where Arnaud Demare beat Sacha Modolo. This year the race has agan attracted a strong line-up for sprinters that vie for the honour of succeeding Demare as the winner of the new race. Ben Swift, Elia Viviani, Mark Renshaw, Alessandro Petacchi and Sam Bennett are the favourites in a race that also marks the return to the road for Bradley Wiggins.
