Today’s stage 3 should see the first real overhaul in the general classification as it finishes on the summit of the Alto de la LeJana.
Before they reach that point, the riders will have crossed three climbs in the previous 60 km, and there could be some quite tired legs as they near the final ascent of the day as teams jostle for position to deliver their leaders in the best possible positions heading on to the decisive climb.
Once the road ramps up the main contenders will be looking to bide their time before the inevitable attacks come on a brutal last 400m which average a mind-blowing 21% gradient. The final climb could see some bitter fighting among Contador (Saxo-Tinkoff), Sánchez (Euskaltel-Euskadi), Porte (Sky) among other.
