Daniil Fominykh has brought the Kazakh TT champion's jersey back to the Astana camp after winning the battle for the national title earlier today. The Kazakh beat Dmitriy Rive by 40 seconds on the 50km course in sweltering heat.
Astana are usually dominant at the Kazakh national championships but last year they saw Andrey Mizourov ride away with the win in the battle for the TT title. Today they took back the jersey when Daniil Fominykh won the 2014 edition of the race.
Fominykh covered the 50km distance in 1:01:20, 40 seconds faster than his result on the same course in 2013. Astana Continental rider Dmitriy Rive finished second and Petropavlovsk’s Oleg Zemlyakov of Vino 4-ever finished third.
“I rode on the lucky Corima wheels today – the same that Dima Gruzdev used to win the Asian Continental Championships last month," Fominykh said. “The course is the same as in previous years, and I came after training 20 days in Almaty at Medeo specifically for the time trial."
Fominykh next races the Tour of Austria in July, but first he will set his sights on his second goal this week – the men’s national road race championship on 29 June – 210km in 40-degree heat on a slightly hilly course.
