"I trained on this road four years ago for the World Championships in Copenhagen, and I remember every turn."
Those were the words of Astana's Daniil Fominykh after stage five at the Post Danmark Rundt. Fominyh posted the fourth fastest time in a short and powerful individual time trial near a castle famous as the fictional home of William Shakespeare's Hamlet.
With near perfect trajectories through the narrow streets and in front of thousands of fans on a warm summer's evening, Fominykh finished 33 seconds behind stage winner Mads Würtz of Denmark.
In the morning road stage Astana Pro Team rider Jakob Fuglsang started despite heavy injuries to his arm, back and hip from a serious crash during Thursday's stage three.. As stage four reached the finishing circuits in Frederiksværk after two hours of racing with an average speed of 50km per hour, Fuglsang graciously abandoned the race, stopping to thank fans, family and friends for their generous support at the Tour of Denmark.
