What’s Oscar Pereiro doing these days? After his Tour victory in 2006, he started a career as football player in the Spanish third division. "Cycling is suffering, football is fun," says the former winner of the Tour de France.

Oscar Pereiro (38) peaked in 2006 when he gained 30 minutes from a breakaway in the Tour de France and spent five days in the yellow jersey.

After Floyd Landis tested positive, Pereiro was declared the overall winner. "For every yellow jersey that I got, I was reminded of (Spanish Tour winners) Indurain and Delgado," said Pereiro to Spanish newspaper Valdepeñas.

After a heavy crash in the 2008 Tour, Pereiro started a football adventure in the Spanish third division with the Coruxo club. "Football has given me the most pleasure.”

Now Pereiro has again changed discipline as he has turned his attention to rally.

"In the races I suffered the most, but also gained a lot of discipline. Rally is again pure adrenaline."

Last season Pereiro was part of the Spanish rally circuit and is urgently looking for sponsors who will allow him to continue as a rally driver for another year.
