Former U23 world champion Anton Vorobyev has confirmed his potential as a time triallist by winning his first elite Russian title in the race against the clock. On a 50km course, he beat his Katusha teammate Sergei Chernetskii by 1.06 while former champion Artem Ovechkin completed the podium.
With several strong showings, Anton Vorobyev has proved that he has the potential to become one of the greatest time triallists in the world. The next year he will wear the Russian champion's jersey on his shoulders in the time trials after he took a convincing victory in his national championships earlier today.
On a 50km course in Tula, Vorobyev avaeraged almost 49kph to beat his teammate Sergei Chernetskii by more than a minute while 2009 champion Artem Ovechkin had to settle for third, 39 seconds further adrift.
Vorobyev will next line up as part of a very strong Katusha team for Sunday's road race.
