Boulder-based Cannondale-Garmin heads to Steamboat Springs, Colorado with a strong squad capable of winning stages and challenging for the overall at the fifth edition of the USA Pro Challenge. Americans Ted King and Nathan Brown are joined by USA Pro Challenge stage winner Janier Acevado (who also placed 4th overall in the third edition of the race), Giro d’Italia stage winner Davide Formolo (who will feel at home in the high mountains and could pose a threat to the overall), neo-pros Kristoffer Skjerping and Ruben Zepuntke and stagiaire Jasper Bovenuis, who (along with King) is fresh off the team’s 2015 Tour of Utah win.
“The USA Pro Challenge has a special place in our hearts,” said Director Charly Wegelius. “The team was born in Colorado, and this is our home race. We are fielding a very young, extremely competitive team that gives us options for stage wins and the overall.”
The USA Pro Challenge is Ted King’s final race in the United States. Ahead of Sunday’s start, he said: “Coming on the heels of a huge team effort and victory for Cannondale-Garmin at the Tour of Utah, I’m thrilled to have USA Pro Challenge be my final race in the United States. These past ten years of racing professionally have seen me on five continents and tallying countless miles traveling to races around the world. So to be back in Colorado where I have strong family ties and a huge network of friends, sponsors, and supporters, really means a tremendous amount to me. Cannondale-Garmin is bringing a really young team with immense talent so it’ll be a fun, full circle to use my decade of experience to help usher in this new generation of talent to Colorado. I know as the days go by, this USA Pro Challenge will tug on the emotions quite a bit.”
