Omar Fraile Prize has won the mountains jersey at the 2015 Vuelta al Pais Vasco. With no climbs in the final time trial, he only has to finish the race. Amets Txurruka, Antonio Molina and Omar Fraile were in the escape of the day for Caja Rural. The team was again offensive and secured themselves the mountains jersey. Omar Fraile is second in the sprint competition. Mikel Landa (Astana) won the stage and Sergio Henao (Sky) still leads.
Omar Fraile analyzed the stage at the finish: "We started with the idea to get up on the podium and fight for a win and in the end we had the reward with the podium. This time we relied on the fact that our rivals were not in the break and in the end we could score points and take the win. Amets did a great job to help me throughout the stage and being ready to support me at every moment. I really appreciate it."
Asked what this jersey means to him, he said: "This jersey and the performance that I have delivered in my home race means a lot to me. It is a jersey that I have always dreamt about and this year I managed to take it. After the races in France and Belgium, I was in good condition. This should also help me in the next races. This year I feel more secure and I start to do better in the races. I notice that I'm finally taking that next step."
Fraile also wanted to remember and dedicate the win to Sergio Pardilla who crashed in the first stage. "We must dedicate it to him. I hope he will recover soon and will be with us again as he is an important part of the team. Sergio, Francesco [Lasca] and Javier [Aramendia] are all injured and I hope that our bad luck with crashes and injuries are over."
Fraile also wanted to highlight and thank the fans for their support of the team. "There have been fans everywhere, every climb has been crowded. They support everyrider and especially us. It is spectacular. It really touches you."
Team manager Eugenio Goikoetxea also took stock of the race before the final time trial.
"You can make a very good balance. We were prominent throughout the race, and we leave with the mountains jersey that is the reward for our work. There are many quality riders here and they don't leave many opportunities, so we have to take what we can. Now we go into some good races in which we must seize the momentum. We are good and eager. We hope to continue our streak this month and put an end to all the bad luck with crashes. We have to keep working to reach our targets and see if we can get a win."
