Omar Fraile (1990) has announced part of his calendar for his WorldTour debut at Dimension Data next season. The Ardennes classics, the Giro d'Italia and the Vuelta a Espana are all on the calendar.
Fraile, winner of the mountains jersey in the Vuelta a Espana knows his races in the first half of 2016, according to BiciCiclismo. The schedule includes the Challenge to Majorca, Volta ao Algarve, Volta a Catalunya, Tour of the Basque Country, Amstel Gold Race, Fleche Wallonne, Liege-Bastogne-Liege and the Giro d'Italia. The second part is undefined although he has targeted a return to the Vuelta.
Fraile will have the opportunity to shine in the WorldTour, with his debut including the races in Catalonia and the Basque Country where he has done well in the past. The big news will be the Ardennes Classics and the Giro. It's a demanding and exciting schedule after he made his grand tour debut in the 2015 Vuelta where he rode strongly to win the mountains competition.
In 2015 he also won the Giro dell'Apennino and a stage of the Four Days of Dunkirk, and his performance in the Vuelta opened the doors to Dimension Data after three years at Caja Rural-RGA (2013-2015) and one year at the continental level with Orbea (2012).
His status as a climber may allow him to take his own chances in a team led by Mark Cavendish and Edvald Boasson Hagen, just like Igor Anton (Movistar Team) who is the latest addition to the team of Brian Smith. His team met at a training camp in Cape Town a few weeks ago and he will again join his new teammates in Calpe on January 10 before traveling to Mallorca.
