Marco Frapporti is ready for the new season. Knowing that he has a spot at Androni – Sidermec, he has had a quiet winter, not like last year when he was without a team for a long time.
“This fact will allow me to deal with the situation with a little more serenity and with greater stimulation,” he told Cyclingpro.net. “We are already working on the last pieces of the puzzle with the team. Then from December we will start with a training camp for ten days and from there we will start to race with higher expectations than we had for 2015, following the race programs that have been established.”
This year Frapporti had a mixed season. The first half wasn’t great but he showed his best form at the end of the year.
“The intention is to start from this base,” he said. “From there I will try to keep it at least until after the Giro d’Italia and then take a break. I want to have a good final part of the year like in 2015, perhaps picking up more than top 10 results because I am always there. It also takes a bit of luck.
”The objectives have not been made yet. Surely I will again be an attacker. I want to start well and try to get some results early. And if I could take a win, it would be the icing on the cake.
”It would be a bit too early to talk precisely about which race I want to win. We will have to see when I reach my best form. We have to define the calendars.
“I'm supposed to start in Argentina at the Tour de San Luis. Now we are waiting to know if we will go to Australia. Then it could change. I am fine at the beginning of the season. If I have to go to Argentina, I will be ready, maybe not to get a result but to support my teammates.”
Last year Frapporti was close to several top 10 results.
”Let's say I do not like to live on memories,” he said. “There are two or three races in which I could have done better, but there are some where even I could have done worse too. Races go as they go. I like to turn the page, to learn from the mistakes from the race and then think about the future. There are races in which I could do well but my goal is just to improve.”
Frapporti is now one of the veterans in a young team.
“When I see one of my teammates making a mistake, I tell him how to do it,” he said. “It is one of the reasons I was renewed by Androni. Together with Franco (Pellizotti, ed.), I try to teach the young riders. That is part of my job. In addition to getting results, I hope to use my experience at Androni.”
