Even though Frank Schleck did a thorough reconnaissance of some of the key 2014 Tour de France stages, including feared cobbled affair from Ypres to Arenberg, it remains uncertain whether any of originating from Luxembourg brothers will participate in the 101st edition of the greatest cycling event.
Schleck brothers are currently following their usual schedule towards the French three-week event by participating in the Tour de Luxembourg, Tour de Swisse and national championships, hoping to prove their worth before the final Trek Factory Racing selection is announced.
While none of Schleck brothers can be certain of gaining a spot in American team’s roster for the Tour, they’re enjoying racing in front of home crowds in five-day event held in Luxembourg.
“It’s a big pleasure to see a huge support and ride here again. I hope to be able to give them something in return,” Frank Schleck said according to Sporza.be.
He also admitted that despite doing reconnaissance of several Tour de France stages, he still is very uncertain of his spot in the Trek Factory Racing roster.
“I still hope for a Tour selection,” Schleck confessed, “But I’m still in limbo.”
“The team is going to release the final selection in coming weeks. It is still to be seen whether the team is picking me. However, I have explored several stages with my brother and some other team-mates.”
The 34-year old Luxembourger also confirmed a general opinion that feared fifth stage from Ypres to Arenberg, including nine Paris-Roubaix pave sectors, is one of those there Tour de France could be irrevocably lost.
“This stage is definitely spectacular, you cannot win the Tour there, but you can lose it in an impressive fashion,” Frank Schleck concluded.
