After another historic season Chris Froome is to be awarded an OBE as part of the New Year's Honours List.

The Team Sky rider is set to receive the Order of the British Empire during 2016 for his services to cycling. This year saw Froome take a second overall victory at the Tour de France, becoming the first Brit to win the historic Grand Tour on two occasions.

The 30 year old has racked up 28 professional victories during his career, quickly putting together one of the most impressive palmares in the sport.

With six Grand Tour stage wins and two second places overall at the Vuelta a Espana to his name, in addition to an Olympic bronze medal and a multitude of stage race victories, the honour is recognition of what is already an incredible career on the bike.

"I am extremely humbled and very proud to receive this honour," said Froome. "It is obviously further recognition for the sport of cycling and it caps a fantastic year for me professionally and personally. It wouldn't be possible without the help of my teammates, coaches and of course the love and support from my family."

Currently training hard ahead of the 2016 season, the honour caps off a memorable 12 months for Froome, including the recently birth of his first child, Kellan.

"This really does bring such an amazing year to a close for me in a really nice way, both professionally and personally," he told Sky Sports News.

"Winning the Tour de France and having a really successful season this year on the bike, and then at the end of the year, having our little boy, Kellan, come into the world - that has got to be the biggest achievement so far."
