While some of European-based riders entertain themselves during the winter-break by participating in track or cyclo-cross events, Chris Froome (Team Sky) and Daryl Impey (Orica-GreenEDGE) will line-up in a Nelson Mandela memorial race instead.
The Unite4Mandela race will be held as a part of the Nelson Mandela Sport and Culture day on November 22. A 67 kilometre long, bumpy route around Pretoria will start at Loftus Versveld and contain 800 meters of climbing with a finish at Union Buildings.
Definitely too easy for Froome, Unite4Mandela route should suit a punchy rider in likes of Daryl Impey perfectly well, so it’s very probable that the South African rider will celebrate his winter-break with a victory in that evens and quite a hefty prize of R250,000 (around £14,000).
