Nicola Ruffoni got another top 10 result in the bunch sprint on stage 13 of the Giro d’Italia.
It was another wet stage with rain from the beginning. Ruffoni was in a good position inside the final kilometre but in the final corner he lost the Lampre –Merida train and on the finishing straight he was too far behind for a head-to-head battle with Sacha Modolo (Lampre – Merida) and Giacomo Nizzolo (Trek) who made up the top 2.
Despite eight points earned in the two intermediate sprints, Nicola Boem lost the points jersey.
"It’s a big pity because it was the right day for a great result. I felt good and in the finale I was smooth behind Modolo’s train. But when we came into the last km I lost my place due to riders coming from behind and taking advantage of a slight slowdown and a corner. I’m so sorry and I’m not satisfied with myself," Ruffoni said.
