There is great enthusiasm among the organizers of the Trofeo Laigueglia in view of the 53rd edition. The Ligurian semi-classic is a pivotal event of the beginning of the Italian season and last year received a 1.HC license from the UCI.
The only setback for 2016 is that it will be held at the same time as the last stage of Le Méditerranéenne which will start and finish in Bordighera , another town on the Ligurian Riviera. That choice has raised eyebrows within the municipal administration because the late decision to host the new stage race creates an overlap uncomfortable for fans who can’t follow both event.
The attempt of the organizers to resolve the situation with the UCI has not been successful. The hope is to find a better for next season. A different timing of events, maybe by moving the Mediterranean stage race one day forward, would have allowed Liguria to have a big cycling week.
