Not known as a pure climber, Tony Gallopin showed his first signs of weakness in today's stage of the Tour de France which was the first really big mountain stage with many long climbs.
"It was always going to be one of the most difficult stages of the Tour de France with a series of long climbs and a difficult climb to the finish. It was not easy. I had to let go after three or four kilometers of the climb and tried to keep my pace. I know the power that I can produce for that amount of time and here I am at my level. I did a proper ascent," he told L'Equipe."
