After some brilliant rides have seen him capture stages in the Tour de France and Paris-Nice, as well as Clasica San Sebastian, Lotto-Soudal’s Tony Gallopin is targeting another big one-day win in 2016.

“I managed a level of consistency in the one-day races, and that’s really important for me. It’s there where I’ve progressed a lot and where I want to continue in the future as well,” Gallopin told Cyclingnews of his 2015 season.

Just like Geraint Thomas, Gallopin was high up on GC at the Tour for two whole weeks before fading. The Frenchman says he wont focus on stage racing as his big goals come in the Classics.

“Maybe my ambitions will change in a few years but for now the goal is to win a big Classic – that remains my priority, more than the Tour,” he said, marking out the Ardennes triptych of Amstel Gold, Flèche Wallonne, and Liège-Bastogne-Liège as his “most important week of the year”.

“Every year I’ve had as a pro I’ve had a sense of progression. That’s the most important thing, I’ve still got a lot of ambition. Top 10s were a big objective last season, and next year I want to be getting top fives, podiums, at the big races. I want to get at least on the podium in a big monument.”

Last year Gallopin bagged top tens in Sanremo, Brabantse Pijl, Amstel Gold, the French champs, Rio Test Race, GP Quebec, Worlds and Il Lombardia.
