One of the biggest stars on the Cannondale team has found a new home for the 2015. Double Tour of Austria stage winner Oscar Gatto will be riding for Androni-Venezuela in 2015 and 2016.
Oscar Gatto (Cannondale) will continue in the professional peloton in 2015 when he will be riding for Gianni Savio. The Italian rider has reached a two-year agreement with Androni Giocattoli-Venezoli, La Gazzetta dello Sport reports.
Gatto will be one of the biggest names on the team due to his experience and high class. In 2014 he won two stages of the Tour of Austria and his past achievements include the win in the 2013 Dwars door Vlaanderen and a stage win in the 2011 Giro d'Italia where he beat Alberto Contador. Since 2009, he has won at least one race every year.
He turned professional with Gerolsteiner in 2007 and joined the ISD/Farnese Vini/Vini Fantini outfit for the 2009 season. Last year he made the move to Cannondale but has not been retained by the Italian team which will merge with Garmin-Sharp.
Gatto is Androni's sixth signing and the second coming from the WorldTour after the team has added Davide Appollonio (Ag2r) to the roster. John Kronborg Ebsen (CCN Cycling Team), Serghei Ţvetcov (Jelly Belly), Marco Benfatto (Continental Astana), Carlos Gimenez and Alberto Nardin are the other signings.
Furthermore, Italians Franco Pellizotti, Andrea Zordan, Gianfranco Zilioli, Alessio Taliani and Emanuele Sella and Venezuelans Yonder Godoy and Jackson Rodriguez will stay with the team in 2015.
