Being one of the riders uncertain of their future in the Astana team, which have already signed several new riders for the 2015 season, Francesco Gavazzi decided to take the future into his own hands and according to Italian media, started negotiations with the Androni-Venezuela outfit.

Gavazzi turned professional with Lampre in 2006 and continued with the Italian squad for six season before joining Astana three years ago. Riding mainly as a domestique in the Kazakh team, Gavazzi managed to take only one victory in the baby-blue outfit, in the season-concluding 2012 edition of the Tour of Beijing, where he also finished runner up in the general classification.

Apparently the 30-year old rider realized that, with confirmed arrivals of such riders as Rein Taaramae (Cofidis), Laurens De Vreese (Wanty-Groupe Gobert), Lars Boom (Belkin Procycling), Diego Rosa (Androni-Venezuela), Luis Leon Sanchez (Caja Rural) or this year’s Tour de l’Avenir winner Miguel Angel Lopez (neo pro) his position in the team becomes increasingly uncertain, and thus he decided to chase his luck elsewhere.

According to Spaziociclismo, Gavazzi is negotiating with Androni-Venezuela manager Gianni Savio and is very likely to join the squad for the 2015 season, stepping down to the Pro Continental level for the first time in his career.
