In the third stage of the Giro d’Italia from Rapallo to Sestri Levante, team Southeast were again protagonists in the breakaway and at the finish but also suffered a crash on the descent.
After the first breakaway yesterday with Eugert Zhupa, Southeast was in the breakaway with Francesco Gavazzi. He finished seventh in Sestri Levante: “At the meeting this morning, we decided to be present in a possible big breakaway. We did it. The leading group would have been able to go to Sestri Levante and I think I was able to win today, but Tinkoff caught us. I don’t know why they worked so hard. When I saw the chasing group, I decided to wait for the final sprint. At the moment, this result is a good result, we will try to do better in the next stages."
It was a good day for the Tuscan team as Yonathan Monsalve was 10th and Elia Favilli 14th.
Manuel Belletti crashed at the end of the Barbagelata descent. He has light scratches on the neck and arms.
